What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion has been used in Europe for many years. It was first introduced in the United States during the mid 1990’s. Microdermabrasion is an integrated option for advanced skin care and complements most treatment programs. Considered a gentle system, it features a dual control system and adjustable applicator head that delivers a steady, effective stream of fine crystals directly onto the skin.

The treatment removes dead surface skin cells and initiates cellular turnover at the dermis and epidermis levels in a safe, controlled manner. This approach respects the integrity of the skin and promotes even healing. Maintaining even cellular growth on the surface aids in the youthfulness of the skin’s appearance.

Microdermabrasion has been used to treat: aging and sun damaged skin, some types of acne scarring and acne, altered pigmentation, stretch marks and fine lines and wrinkles.

Results may include: improved skin tone, even skin color, refined skin pores, fewer breakouts, healthy glow, renewed elasticity and a diminished appearance of scars.

What can I expect?

Prior to your first mirodermabrasion, a skin analysis is performed. If microdermabrasion is not appropriate, you are informed during this session. An alternative high-performance series may be recommended instead. If microdermabrasion is for you, maximum results are obtained by participating in a series of treatments plus following a home care regimen.

To further enhance your outcome, we may require that you use products and/or medications specifically directed toward obtaining correction. Your current daily regime and skin care products are reviewed. Every attempt will be made to incorporated current products into a more comprehensive program which compliments your skin. For example, we may tell you to continue using your cleanser while adding in new corrective products to target the needs of your skin. We may also tell you that some of what you are using may not be the most appropriate for your skin type.

Keeping regular appointments and carefully following you home care regime supports your results. During your session we take your microdermabrasion series one step further by applying additional corrective products on your skin during your treatment. Additionally, we take every precaution to ensure that your skin is well hydrated and calm prior to leaving each session. In a few cases patients have reported experience excessive dryness or even some peeling between sessions, which may or may not be normal. Always check with your technician. More sensitive skin may experience some redness after the first couple of sessions. This normally goes away after 2-3 hours.
