Buttock
Augmentation
WHY IS A BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION PERFORMED?
The contours of your body can easily be enhanced. Many people
have a buttock that they feel is too small or lacking the
profile they desires. This can be corrected utilizing implants.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE OPERATION?
It is an outpatient procedure that takes 2-3 hours under general
anesthesia. There most common approach is to make incisions in
the crease under the buttock where it meets the top of your leg.
After this your surgeon will create a pocket for the implant to
be placed in. Implants can be placed under or over the muscle
and your surgeon will discuss the best method for your
individual case. Sometimes this procedure is combined with
liposculpture to create increased contours and enhance the
overall effect of the implants.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
There may be some discomfort, swelling, bruising, and redness.
You will be wearing a compression garment. You may have
difficulty sitting for several days after surgery. Swelling
caused by fluid retention can be reduced by getting up and
walking several times a day for brief periods.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS?
Although infrequent, there is always the possibility of
infection. When infection does occur it is generally treated
with antibiotics, but in some cases the implant must be removed
and later replaced. Implants can also shift and a second
operation is necessary for repositioning. You can help minimize
certain risks by following the advice and instructions of your
surgeon, both before and after your buttock implant surgery.
There is also the possibility of bleeding, numbness or capsular
contraction (scar tissue that has formed around the implant can
become tightened and hard).
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE OPERATION?
You will be in a supportive garment. There may be some
discomfort that is easily controlled by medication. Stitches
will be removed in about 7-10 days.
WHEN CAN NORMAL ACTIVITIES BE RESUMED?
You may return to work within a few days but try to avoid
extensive sitting. Avoid strenuous activities for several weeks.
Exercise and physical activities can be resumed in 1-2 months.
